The machine is in da house! Shocked  Shocked

No photos yet, but I have the machine specs.

Singer Zig-Zag Fashion Mate 360 circa 1975. After all these years I have decided to give my machine a name, so I'm calling it Sophie (Sew-phi Wink ).  Roll Eyes

What fabric? If you can afford it, go to a quiltshop and buy good quality cotton fabric. And wash before use. This will give a good and predictable result. The washing is to save you from a lot of chemicals in the dyes and in case it should "bleed" or shrink.
Yvonne

Well, it's only taken two years, but I bought fabric today!   Roll Eyes I got fat-quarters of 3 bright cottons with small prints in red, green, and blue. For the back, I bought a yard of a light gray fleece, and then some 1/4" polyester batting for the fill. I bought all cotton thread as I wasn't sure what is preferred; it said quilting thread so I went fcor it.  Tongue

I was coming to ask if I should wash it, but found you answered that already Yvonne. I'll get it washed in the next couple days as I look for one of my Katabatak patterns to use.

Off I go then, at a turtle's pace again.......................... Cool

Clearly I should have designed the pattern before I bought the fabric.  Undecided  Gotta go with what I got though, so it looks like I will end up with a 30"x30" quilt instead of a 45x45.  Tongue I looked at the thread again, and it says for 'hand' quilting!!?? Again, gotta go with what I have now, so I loaded a bobbin of it and put it in the machine anyway.  Roll Eyes Oh; the thread is white.
Here's the fabrics:

I used a rotary cutter, mat, & straightedge to cut my 6" blocks. I have one row of 6 blocks stitched together with a 1/2" seam allowance, which I finger-pressed open.  Sew far, sew good.  Grin

6 rows of 6 blocks complete.  Smiley Now to press them with the iron, pin them together, and sew 'em...sew 'em real good.  Roll Eyes

With the rows sewn together, I pressed the complete block and then stacked it on the back panel and the batting. Batting on the bottom, then back panel face-side-up, then block panel face-side-down.

With it pinned in place, I trimmed off the edges, sewed them, and then trimmed the batting overhanging the stitch line. I left an opening 2 blocks long on one of the edges, through which to turn the quilt right-side-out.

I turned the quilt right-side-out, and with it face up I stitched-in-the-ditch along all the interior square-patch boundaries by starting on an outer row, sewing the length from edge to edge, and then turning the quilt 90 deg, doing the same to the next.

Still to do, blind stitch the opening on the edge closed and that oughta finish it up.  Tongue
