(OK, technically this isn't exactly a joke, but it does fall under the category of humor.)

You know who you are.

On the outside, you seem fairly normal.
But deep down on the inside...you have always had this nagging, irrational loathing of...Hughes Aircraft Company.

And you wondered, "Why doesn't someone create a forum for people like me?  People who hate Hughes?"

Well, your wish is my command.  Go to  www.phpbbplanet.com/nevergreen  and join the Anti-Hughes revolution!

Don't hate Hughes?  Visit anyway.  By the time you're through, you may just be in touch with your inner Hughes-hater. The one you never knew was there. Grin

(BTW- if you do visit, ignore the 'Test Forum 1' message. Just click on it and enter the party!)

Please by all means continue to contribute here, so as not to give the impression you are just spammin'.   Roll Eyes Thanks for getting attracted to Post Magnet. Tongue

I find in such cases that it is helpful to go at it headon (not an advert! Grin ) without pause and read for volume and not content. The content is, after all, written between the lines and better perceived following the above prescription.

I'm a little full up on hate right now, and I love Howard for his accomplishments inspite of his errors, the same as I love Tommy Edison in spite of his ruthless behavior. In defense of peace, the safe place is behind the trigger.  Tongue

Roger that. In the mean time, I got some more trivia for you on Hughes and aircraft. Good news: His Spruce Goose is garaged about 50 miles from me. Bad News: I'm as reclusive as he was in old age & I have never visited it.  Shocked

I never did understand the point of building a plane that could barely get off the ground.  Huh

I guess when you're rich enough and crazy enough, you can try just about anything. Must be nice... Grin

No no; you misunderstand. It was only allowed to barely get off the ground, and it wasn't even supposed to do that by guidelines the suits who were going to buy it laid out. That only flight was supposed to be only a taxi shakedown run, but Howard was at the controls and took her up anyway. As far as its aerodynamics, I understand engineers still think its a peach, and it was Howard and his team that designed and engineered it. He did inherit money, but earned much more on his own creativeness and drive.

Howard hated the name Spruce Goose; the plane's actual designation is Hughes Flying Boat H-4 (HK-1) Hercules

Revolting stuff I know.  Grin

I did know that it was actually named Hercules, and that he hated the name 'Spruce Goose'.

But I wasn't aware that it wasn't supposed to be flown. I always thought that it was just too heavy...

Or as I said as a child, referring to something else, "too fat to fly."  Roll Eyes

I guess it's who you believe on the topic. I looked around a bit and found about as many claims the Hercules couldn't fly higher/farther than it did, as claims that it could have. Not likely we'll ever know now.  Cool
